History

Visit Charleston, once the oldest English city south of Virginia, home to some of the most beautiful mansions this side of Tara. Walk down the timeworn cobblestone streets of the Historic District and notice the majestic architecture and flora. Perhaps you will run into one of our less-recent residents on the Ghost Walk. Stop by the Charleston Harbor, once raided by Blackbeard the Pirate. See where Washington slept at the Daniel Heyward House. Visit Fort Sumter where the first shots of the Civil War were fired. Explore an authentic World War II Battleship at Patriots Point. Dine at a lowcountry restaurant and discover the tastes of the Gullah culture. Try okra soup, gumbo, or red rice. Stroll through the market and watch while sweetgrass baskets are delicately weaved.

Exploring Charleston’s history does not stop in the streets of downtown. A short drive to Wadmalaw Island, south of Charleston, takes you to America’s only tea plantation. Or visit Folly Beach, one of the beach communities that was swept up by the ‘Carolina Shag’ in the 1930s. Find yourself shag dancing out on the pier to live beach music or at the Shag Dance Club.

No one knows Charleston like we do, so don’t worry! We can arrange your trip to experience the city in a way few do. Take tours of Colonial Charleston or explore one of Charleston’s greatest charms- its living history. We will take care of the planning, leaving you free to fully experience Charleston. We can’t wait to share our city with you.
